The computer memory which is usually known as Random Access Memory (RAM) is a volatile storage area. It is a temporary storage area which is utilised by CPU. Basically before running a program, the CPU allows the program to be loaded into the memory.
This facilitates the direct access of CPU to the program. It is the general fact about the memory regardless of the fact that it is either a laptop computer memory or a PC desktop memory. Memory is considered as an essential component of computer and the least recommended memory for your IBM or Macintosh is 64 MB. However, the memory requirements usually change depending upon the software which you intend to use on your computer. The memory can be basically categorised into two groups including memory available in computer chips and hard disk drive memory.
The later type of memory is larger as compared to the other types of memory. The larger the hard drive memory, the more your storage area increases but you must have compatible components installed in the computer system to support the memory. Therefore, I suggest that it is always appropriate to check the compatibility of memory with your system before upgrading your system.
